Second Year in a Row, Continuum Veterans Foundation Donates $50,000 to Hire Heroes USA to Help Veterans Find Civilian Jobs

Last Year’s $50,000 Donation Helped 239 Veterans, Transitioning Troops and Spouses with Career Assistance and Confirmed 101 Veterans Hired in Civilian Jobs, Doubling Goal for 2014

 

BOSTON and ATLANTA – Nov. 11, 2014 – Continuum Veterans Foundation, helping returning troops find jobs in the IT industry, has once again donated $50,000 to Atlanta, Georgia-based Hire Heroes USA, an organization dedicated to creating job opportunities for U.S. military veterans and their spouses through personalized employment training and corporate engagement. With the same donation last year, Continuum-funded Veteran Transition Specialists have helped 239 veterans, transitioning troops and spouses with career assistance, and confirmed 101 veterans hired in civilian jobs from December 2013 through October, 2014, doubling the goal for this year. The organization is on track to exceed over 1,500 confirmed hires in 2014.

Hire Heroes USA team members assist nearly 150 transitioning service members, veterans and their spouses each week through personalized, one-on-one career coaching. They came to ride mountain bikes in Central Texas last Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Most of the 16 riders had never met, but all had suffered grievous combat injuries, traveled difficult paths to recovery, and demonstrated incredible character. These Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans rode in the Bush Institute’s fourth annual W100K, hosted by former President George W. Bush to honor wounded warriors and draw attention to groups promoting physical activity as a vital aid to their healing.

When James Wyche left the military last December, he brought along some impressive credentials:

 

Twenty years in the U.S. navy as a hospital corpsman, handling everything up to minor surgery. Two advanced degrees — an MBA and a master’s in health care management — acquired during multiple tours in the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East.

 

And perhaps the biggest plus for potential civilian employers: a soldier’s sense of discipline and commitment.
