“I was medically retired as a Flight Medical Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) / E-6. When I received the news that I would no longer be allowed to remain in the military, it ended my dreams of becoming a Physician’s Assistant and started an extremely arduous journey. However, I believed that through God’s grace, and Multiple state, local (HHUSA), and federal organizations I have been able to become a Veteran success story.
For example, in order to provide for my family with the help of the VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Chapter 31) program, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Lewis-Clark State College in May 2013. After pursuing my undergraduate degree at Lewis-Clark State College, I realized that I could not “gut” it out anymore alone. My family suffered immensely during that time period and I did not want to add any more stress to their lives. As a result, I applied to the Wyakin Warrior Foundation and was inducted in June of 2013. I then continued my journey towards earning a Master’s Degree in Social Work from BSU.

NEW YORK—For Anthony Mannino, the way forward was clear.
The Marine Reservist and New York native was on duty in Hawaii advising troops in a warrior transition unit when he decided to enroll in the same USO/Hire Heroes USA courses he was advising those troops to take. The USO/Hire Heroes USA Career Transition Workshop helped Mannino sharpen his skills on the way to a career at the Defense Contract Audit Agency.
“I’m definitely living proof that it’s a good product and it helps transitioning service members get jobs,” Mannino said.
Nathan Rosser registered with Hire Heroes USA after separating from the US Army as a Staff Sergeant. After reviewing Nathan’s resume, his Veteran Transition Specialist discovered that Nathan was not properly communicating his skills and qualifications to civilian employers. Hire Heroes USA helped Nathan quantify his experience and highlight key words in order to present himself as a qualified candidate for jobs. Nathan was then able to tailor his resume specific to individual job descriptions, increasing his chances of securing interviews. This personalized resume assistance, coupled with interview skills coaching, helped Nathan find employment as Operations Manager for an international firm in the natural stone industry. Additionally, Nathan serves as a hiring manager in his new role, allowing him to utilize his new skills to select highly qualified talent.
As US Marine Corps Staff Sergeant, Christopher Murphy, was about to medically retire, he began preparing for his separation by updating his resume. He was uncomfortable with the idea of finding employment outside of his military comfort zone and knew he needed assistance. Christopher found Hire Heroes USA. Within 24 hours of registering for Hire Heroes USA’s free programs and services, Christopher received a tailored resume along with individual mentorship on how to conduct job searches and prepare for interviews. Christopher utilized this training and had a number of interviews lined up within 2 weeks. Ultimately, Christopher secured a job as a Physical Evaluation Board Liaison Officer providing assistance to fellow Marines.
Army National Guard veteran Andrew McLaughlin was hired as a Veterans Programs Liaison with National Able Network. With a Master’s Degree in Communications Studies from Eastern Illinois University, Andrew has a passion for assisting veterans and those in need.
