Hire Heroes USA Marks 10,000th Hired Veteran

Nonprofit’s lifetime mission milestone of lessening veteran under- and unemployment brings extra benefit of contributing more than $100 million back into the U.S. economy

ATLANTA, GA (PRWEB) JUNE 27, 2016 – Hire Heroes USA, the preeminent, national nonprofit organization providing veteran employment services, today announced that it recently marked the 10,000th veteran it has helped find gainful civilian employment since its founding in 2007. In addition, the organization calculates that this lifetime mission milestone reflects more than $100 million in cash flow pumped back into the larger U.S. economy. The calculation is based upon the combination of reducing the annual $1 billion the American taxpayer spends on veteran unemployment benefits, plus the infusion of dollars from veteran income and payroll taxes.

“This milestone represents the collective commitment to excellence of our dedicated and passionate team. I want to thank our entire organization, as well as our individual and corporate donors for their generous support,” said Brian Stann, chief executive officer of Hire Heroes USA and a Marine combat veteran. “Many of these 10,000 hires have been promoted to a position of influence, which is great for our mission and our country. Our calculation of the residual, positive economic impacts we’ve affected underscores both the human and financial benefits when there is a swift and successful transition from military service to becoming a productive member of America’s working community. Our work is having a profound impact on thousands of people and families, and I am speaking with more employers each day who are seeking more veteran talent.”

Honing an Economically Efficient Approach While Growing in Mission Capacity

Amidst the United States experiencing the largest transition of military personnel back to civilian life since World War II, Hire Heroes USA was created to augment overwhelmed military transition services. Since then, the organization has grown 17 times larger, emerging as the largest, national nonprofit in its category while maintaining a best-in-class, highly economically-efficient approach to providing high-touch employment guidance to unemployed veterans and transitioning military.

“As we grew, we actually honed and evolved in our program efficiency and scale to reduce our overhead costs per hire,” explains Nathan Smith, Hire Heroes USA’s chief operating officer. “We’re very proud of our track record, and it’s only getting stronger as we grow in mission capacity. Currently, we’re helping to reduce the duration of veteran unemployment by half, which means for every $1 dollar we receive in donations, the U.S. taxpayer receives nearly $7 dollars in return.”

Smith adds that 88 cents of every dollar donated to Hire Heroes USA goes directly toward supporting its high-touch, one-on-one career programs. For its efficiency and administrative transparency, the organization has emerged as among the highest-rated nonprofits with a 4-Star rating from Charity Navigator.

Carl Meyer “100 Holes for Our Heroes” Fundraiser Poised to Reach Half-A-Million Dollars in Donations in Support of Hire Heroes USA

Annual Fourth of July Event also to Mark the 1000th Hole Played in Nine-Year Journey to Support Nonprofit that Provides Best-in-Class Veteran Employment Services

ATLANTA, GA (PRWEB) JUNE 21, 2016

Hire Heroes USA, the pre-eminent national nonprofit organization providing veteran employment services, today announced that longtime benefactor Carl Meyer will host the Ninth Annual “100 Holes for Our Heroes” fundraiser this Fourth of July. Mr. Meyer’s charitable golf marathon has raised $460,000 in donations since its founding in 2008. This year, through a combination of corporate and individual donations, that figure is poised to reach a cumulative half-a-million dollars. In addition, the first hole Mr. Meyer plays in 2016 will mark the 1000th in his personal journey to combine a passion for the sport and a humble, yet inspirational act of patriotism.

“For anyone who can do math, it’s obvious I have played more than 100 holes in a single day all these years,” explained Meyer, who is executive vice president of The Wetrich Group. “While the original idea was to golf 100 holes in one day, some of the donations over the years came in the form of ‘per hole played’ pledges, so I have played as many as possible. I am absolutely honored to once again be in a position to support every program Hire Heroes USA has to offer. I’m blessed to live in this country. Getting up at the crack of dawn to play a game that I love is nothing compared to the extreme sacrifices our military members have endured to protect our freedoms.”

In 2008, Meyer played 108 holes, followed by 110 in 2009, with numbers increasing over the years, culminating in 155 holes played in 2015. To put this feat into context, the Professional Golfers’ Association record for the most holes played in a single day is 29 holes – a record set back in 1949.

The growth of Meyer’s fundraising and annual golf strokes coincides with the growth of the organization he has so steadfastly supported. Since 2008, Hire Heroes USA has grown 17 times larger, emerging as the largest national nonprofit in its category while maintaining its economically efficient approach to providing high-touch employment guidance to unemployed veterans and transitioning military. Eighty-eight cents of every dollar donated to the nonprofit goes directly toward supporting high-touch, one-on-one hiring programs. For its efficiency and administrative transparency, Hire Heroes USA has emerged as among the highest rated nonprofit organizations with a 4-Star rating from Charity Navigator.

“From creating public and corporate awareness to raising precious donor dollars in our early, critical years, Carl has been extraordinarily generous,” said Brian Stann, chief executive officer of Hire Heroes USA and a former Marine combat veteran. “Through his untold contributions, we have significantly expanded our capacity to create life changing career opportunities for those who have dutifully served our country to protect our freedom.”

100 Holes for Our Heroes will be held on July 4, 2016, at Chenequa Country Club in Hartland, Wis. All donations raised by the marathon golfing event will go towards helping members of our Armed Forces, veterans or their spouses to receive resume building assistance, job interview preparation, and effective networking techniques. More information about the event, including how a thankful public can donate or become a sponsor can be found at this link.

Hire Heroes USA Experiencing Over 200% Growth in Veteran Hires as Donors Embrace its Effective Employment Services

Enhanced internal process efficiency also among contributing factors to expanded mission capacity

 ATLANTA, GA (PRWEB) JUNE 20, 2016

Hire Heroes USA, the pre-eminent national nonprofit organization providing veteran employment services, today announced that it is experiencing more than 200 percent year-over-year growth in helping veterans and transitioning military launch successful civilian careers as increased donations have expanded its mission capacity.

“Thanks to the generous support of our individual and corporate donors, Hire Heroes USA has emerged as the best-in-class, national nonprofit organization within its category,” said Brian Stann, chief executive officer of Hire Heroes USA and former combat veteran. “We’re poised for another year of exceptional expansion of our vitally needed services due to the largest return of the military to civilian life since World War II.”

Today, more than 200 corporate employers have partnered with Hire Heroes USA to support veteran hiring. Other strategic relationships that have enabled the organization’s growth include grants from Call of Duty Endowment, the Schultz Family Foundation, the Walmart Foundation, in addition to an ongoing strategic partnership with the United Services Organization (USO).

Stann added that at Hire Heroes USA’s current funding, it has the capacity to provide in-depth and personalized assistance to 400 veterans and/or transitioning military and their spouses every week, but even at that level, the nonprofit often has to turn away requests for help in building resumes, preparing for job interviews, and learning effective networking techniques.

“There are big obstacles for veterans to find job opportunities that optimize their military training and experience. Government-sponsored military transition services are overwhelmed, and often returning combat veterans and separated military, whose services are no longer needed, receive inadequate guidance toward finding fulfilling careers in the civilian workforce,” explained Stann. “We provide a concierge experience for clients during the job search process, and have made great strides to create the most economically effective approach to this type of high-touch employment guidance.”

Based on recent analysis, Hire Heroes USA has validated that on average for every $1,300 in donations it receives, those dollars cover its costs to help a veteran find gainful employment. Two-thirds of individuals who contact the organization and get a resume built, get hired. Moreover, the nonprofit’s free services reduce the duration of veteran unemployment by half.

Other Hire Heroes USA productivity and momentum highlights:

  • Experienced 139% growth in corporate donations and 145% growth in individual donations year-over-year;
  • Recognized as among the highest rated nonprofit veteran services organizations with a 4-Star rating from Charity Navigator and a Platinum Star rating from GuideStar;
  • Accelerated process efficiencies to the point that for every dollar donated to Hire Heroes USA, 83 cents go directly toward veteran employment programs;
  • Doubled in organizational size in recent years and now operates out of eight offices nationwide;
  • Added the following executives to its board of directors: David Sneed, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Delta Private Jets; and Joshua Weintraub, head of Residential Mortgage and Investing & senior managing director, Cerberus Capital Management.

Hire Heroes USA works with thousands of military members and veterans across all ranks, worldwide. Military members who are transitioning soon, veterans and military spouses are invited to register for free services at: hireheroesusa.org/get-registered/.

For the Love of Golf:  Missions of Milestones and Fundraising

In professional golf, when discussions turn to the most holes played in one day, it’s typically in reference to the longest sudden-death playoffs. The actual PGA Tour record for that feat – 11 holes – was first set back in 1949 at the Motor City Open by Hall of Famers Cary Middlecoff and Lloyd Mangrum.

Both men were declared co-champions, because they ended up running out of daylight before they ran out of holes. Since that 1949 record still stands, it means the highest total number of holes ever officially played in any one day on the PGA Tour is 29 – the 18-hole course, plus that playoff record.

Now, fast forward to 2015 and the tiny Village of Chenequa, Wisconsin. It was in that Milwaukee suburb, at the Chenequa Country Club, that avid golfer Carl Meyer played a whopping 155 holes in just one day.

Think about that for a moment and let it sink in – 155 holes. Some of you might be thinking, “Is it even possible?” And, “Why would anyone do that?!”

Well, Meyer has been on his uber golfing quest since 2008, when he decided to match his over-sized passion for the sport to a charitable cause:  Hire Heroes USA. Since then, he has raised more than $460,000 dollars and, along the way, he’s meticulously kept track of every single hole played on that adventurous mission.

The original idea was to golf 100 Holes in one day – the Fourth of July – and raise money through a mix of corporate and individual donations, including some “per hole played” pledges. The only problem with the idea was that Meyer never actually played only 100 Holes – he always played MORE!

In 2008, it was 108 holes. He topped that a year later with 110, incrementally increasing the number each year until he reached 135 holes in 2014. Then, last year, he made that big jump – to 155.

carl meyer3_smTo accomplish a mammoth endeavor like this, Meyer has had tee times while most Americans are still sleeping, and it’s so dark he has to listen closely for the ball to hit the ground so he can find it on the fairway. One of the advantages of a 4:50am start? He can begin his second 18-holes before many people have had their morning coffee, and possibly be well into his third 18-holes before he sees another golfer on the course.

Marine Corps veteran John Matter visits his friend on the course each year, riding in the golf cart with Meyer and speaking with donors. He was a sniper, serving in a number of combat zones, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen and Kosovo, and is a recipient of three Purple Hearts.

“I owe a lot to Hire Heroes USA,” Matter says, crediting the nonprofit with helping him get his first job when he retired. “Veterans don’t want a handout. They want an opportunity to show that they are ‘real world’ ready.”

About Meyer’s annual pursuit, he says, “Carl is such a dynamic, good person.”

When speaking with Meyer, it’s clear that the appreciation is mutual. He’ll be the first to tell you that his yearly golf marathon is nothing compared to the extremes our military members endure, and that’s why you’ll find him – every year – making multiple rounds on the front and back nines at Chenequa Country Club.

For Meyer, it’s something personal. His family, his company, his coworkers, his community, and his professional contacts are his biggest supporters. Following his day-long fundraising feat at the golf course each year, he sends each of them a personal thank you note. He gracefully deflects any recognition of his own monumental achievements. “I’m blessed to live in this country,” he says, quickly adding that, in his view, it’s “a small way to give back.”

In the same eight-year time period that Meyer has amassed a memorable collection of scorecards from his eight single days of fundraising, Hire Heroes USA has also seen remarkable growth.

In 2008, when Meyer’s mission began, the nonprofit confirmed an annual total of 37 clients from “helped to hired” – an average of less than one per week. In 2016, Hire Heroes USA can confirm a weekly average of 113 hires, a number that continues to rise.

Within the month, Hire Heroes USA will pass 10,000 lifetime hires through its free, personalized career coaching services for transitioning military, veterans and military spouses. The national nonprofit will reach that amazing milestone about the same time that Meyer steps onto the golf course on July 4th to tee off for his first hole of the day. It’s a hole that will hold great, personal significance, because it will be his 1,000th hole played in what has been an incredible and indelible journey on behalf of Hire Heroes USA.
