Siemens Donates $30,000 to Hire Heroes USA, Demonstrating Ongoing Support for U.S. Military Members

Sponsorships support Team Hire Heroes USA in the Marine Corps Marathon and the nonprofit’s fundraising gala November 3 in the Atlanta metro area

Siemens, a leading provider in the automation and digitalization industry and proponent of community impact through volunteerism, is giving back to the brave men and women who have served our country.

The Siemens Caring Hands Foundation is making a $30,000 donation to Hire Heroes USA, a national nonprofit that provides free, expert coaching and job sourcing to thousands of transitioning military members, veterans and military spouses every year.

$20,000 will be put towards a Presenting Sponsorship of Team Hire Heroes USA at the 2017 Marine Corps Marathon, an event that is one of the largest of its kind in the U.S. and is exclusively organized by the men and women of the United States Marine Corps. The race takes place Oct. 22 in Arlington, Va. The remaining $10,000 will support a Silver-level sponsorship of Hire Heroes USA’s American Patriots Gala to be held Nov.3 in Alpharetta, Ga.

“We are extremely grateful to Siemens for their generous support of these two key events, which come as our nonprofit marks the 10th year of making a positive and measurable impact on the lives of U.S. military veterans and their families,” says Christopher Plamp, Chief Operating Officer and interim CEO of Hire Heroes USA, and a retired Air Force colonel. “In October, Hire Heroes USA will confirm its 20,000th hire, a remarkable achievement that will have generated an estimated economic impact of $242 million. Each of those men and women came to us with their own story of unemployment, underemployment, or the myriad fears and frustrations of having to launch a civilian job search when your whole career until that point was in the military. We’ve seen a 112 percent increase in client growth since 2015 alone, and that’s due in part to the referrals from client alumni.”

The contribution is part of Siemens Business to Society Initiative, designed to provide a lasting impact on and positive value for the communities in which we work and live.

Business to Society captures Siemens’ efforts to address some of America’s biggest challenges as part of its core business strategy. The company’s 50,000 U.S. employees are making a difference by helping to close the skills gap, supporting U.S. R&D, reducing carbon emissions, driving breakthrough medical innovations, and advancing America’s security, infrastructure and economy.

Putting its Business to Society methodology into practice, this contribution by Siemens will help to bolster our communities in the states we have offices, including Georgia, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and more. By providing Hire Heroes USA, and in turn unemployed veterans, increased resources for career training, Siemens’ actions will provide aid in the form of economic impact.

“For us, it was very easy to align ourselves with Hire Heroes USA, an organization doing an outstanding job supporting veterans and their families. It’s these men and women who have sacrificed so much to serve and protect our country that need and deserve this valuable assistance in their transition into the civilian workforce,” said Anne Cooney, President of the U.S. Process Industries and Drives division of Siemens.

This donation follows our continuous commitment to veterans. In 2013, Siemens launched the USA Veterans Initiative Program, which enables veterans of the U.S. Armed forces to develop their skills in STEM-related careers. Earlier this year, Siemens solidified its commitment to veterans, pledging to hire an additional 300 over the next three years, in addition to the 2,500 already in our workforce. This new relationship with Hire Heroes USA will connect the company to a pool of qualified veterans who are hungry for work.

Hire Heroes USA’s services include resume assistance, mock interviews, federal sector help, job matching, and virtual career fairs. By aligning itself with employment partners that range from small businesses to Fortune 100 companies, the nonprofit also offers a job board that features thousands of career opportunities from companies that want to hire veterans.

“We believe the impact of this donation is immeasurable,” said Cooney. “We’re helping put veterans to work in ‘new–collar’ careers and ultimately, these will be the workers who close the skills gap in manufacturing.”

Hire Heroes USA Receives Third Consecutive 4-Star Rating from Charity Navigator

Atlanta-based nonprofit is top-rated resource against veteran underemployment and unemployment

Hire Heroes USA, the preeminent nonprofit providing employment services to transitioning U.S. military members, veterans and military spouses across the United States and around the world, announced today it has earned Charity Navigator’s coveted 4-Star rating – demonstrating strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency – for a third consecutive year.

By attaining Charity Navigator’s highest possible rating again in 2017, the national nonprofit has reinforced its continued commitment to donors and the clients it serves and, in the process, established itself as one of the highest-rated charity organizations in the country.

In a letter, Charity Navigator President and CEO Michael Thatcher said, “Only 17 percent of the charities we evaluate have received at least three consecutive 4-Star evaluations, indicating that Hire Heroes USA outperforms most other charities in America.” He continued, “The exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets Hire Heroes USA apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness.”

“Donors entrust us with funds to do one thing: help veterans and military spouses find jobs,” said Nathan Smith, Hire Heroes USA’s Chief Financial Officer and a Marine Corps combat veteran. “So that’s exactly what we do. At the same time, there is a basic premise we don’t run the ship aground. A third 4-Star rating from Charity Navigator reflects our duel commitment to the clients we serve and the donors who make our work possible.”

Through continued innovation and a keen focus on results, Georgia-based Hire Heroes USA has established itself as the top employment resource for thousands of transitioning military members, veterans and military spouses every year. To date, the nonprofit has helped more than 19,000 clients find meaningful careers in the civilian workforce, generating an estimated economic impact of more than $225 million. Since 2015 alone, the organization has experienced a remarkable 112 percent increase in client growth, due in part to its own success and increased referrals from client alumni.

Hire Heroes USA sets itself apart from other veteran service organizations by focusing exclusively on the issues of underemployment and unemployment affecting veterans and military spouses. The nonprofit’s free, personalized career coaching services include resume assistance, mock interviews, federal sector help, and job matching, as well as virtual career fairs. By aligning itself with employment partners that range from small businesses to Fortune 100 companies, the nonprofit also offers a job board that features thousands of career opportunities from companies that want to hire veterans.

Veterans who found employment with the assistance of Hire Heroes USA have said the following about the nonprofit’s services – Marine Corps E-3: “Working with Hire Heroes USA was definitely unlike any other experience I’ve had. From the very beginning, it was easy to tell that I wasn’t just another number and they actually cared about my success.” Army E-8, Recipient of Bronze Star and Purple Heart: “Having been in the military for 30 years made transitioning to the civilian world a monumental challenge. Hire Heroes USA helped me better understand the things I needed to do to land a job, and reinforced my confidence.” Air Force E-6: “I had trouble translating my military duties and responsibilities for my resume. I was also not very confident with the interview portion of job searching. It meant a lot that these services are available at zero cost.” Marine Corps W-4: “I tell every military member I meet who is going, or will soon be going, through transition about Hire Heroes USA. I tell them how valuable the resources can be. The resume help alone is worth anyone’s time.”

Message from Brian Stann

1 September 2017

It is with a mix of emotions I share that I will be stepping down as President and CEO of Hire Heroes USA. This move will be effective September 15, 2017.  The decision for my transition from Hire Heroes USA was not made lightly. I have accepted a new leadership opportunity that will allow me to focus more time on my family, especially my three young daughters. That said, I’m not completely leaving the Hire Heroes USA family – I will remain on the Board of Directors to continue my support of an essential and effective mission in which I still strongly believe.

It has been my great honor to lead this amazing organization for nearly nine years, a period marked by incredible growth for our nonprofit. When I was first tapped to serve as Hire Heroes USA CEO in January 2009, we confirmed between 2 and 3 clients hired each month. Today, by comparison, we confirm more than 165 veterans and military spouses hired each week – across the country and around the world, and we’ve reduced our cost per hire by 95 percent to $927. By any measure, this alone is a remarkable achievement. But there’s much more. Through increased innovation and effectiveness, Hire Heroes USA continues to set the standard for veteran employment services and I have no doubt that this organization will continue to do so well into the future.

None of this would have been possible without the hard work, determination, remarkable support and continued focus of every single one of you. Together, we have built a program that is a leader in the veteran employment space and is held in high esteem for its transparency, accountability and its results. We have been able to have an ever-increasing impact on the lives of the men and women who have served this great country.

Hire Heroes USA’s Board of Directors has begun an executive search to find my replacement. In the meantime, Chief Operating Officer Christopher Plamp will serve as interim CEO until that successor is named and in place. I am confident Christopher and the incredible team we have here will continue the great work they’ve been doing – empowering transitioning military members, veterans and military spouses with the tools and resources they need to find success, for themselves and their families, in the civilian workforce.

Transition and change are a part of life. While leaving Hire Heroes USA is bittersweet, I’m excited to embark on a new journey to showcase the diverse skills that military veterans possess.

As always, thank you for your continued commitment to our nation’s veterans and their families.

With Admiration,

Brian Stann
