Atlanta-based nonprofit concurs with President’s proposal to improve training for military veterans transitioning into civilian jobs and recommends its nationally-recognized best practices

Atlanta, GA, August 07, 2011- Hire Heroes USA, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that is expert at assisting unemployed and transitioning military veterans obtain employment – responded favorably to President Obama’s proposed reform of current military transition assistance programs and increased tax incentives for companies hiring veterans.

“The President’s announcement earlier today is a step in the right direction,” said Brian Stann, president of Hire Heroes USA. “Hopefully these tax credits will attract companies to a talent-rich pool of unemployed, military veterans. We would be honored to be a part of the conversation to develop a new transition proposal aimed at training our veterans in career readiness. Our experience and expertise in getting veterans hired would be an invaluable asset to this endeavor and ultimately help create an effective transition program for veterans.”

Hire Heroes USA has a national reputation of proven success at training and assisting unemployed veterans to find jobs – more than 120 veterans in the first six months of 2011 alone. “It’s not magic,” says Hire Heroes USA executive director Nathan Smith. “Our team is comprised of military veterans – many with combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan – and business professionals. The mix of military and civilian experience is essential to developing relationships with veterans and businesses. Effectively training veterans in the skills of self-marketing and networking them into family-wage jobs with great companies, takes a program staffed by smart and talented people doing the right thing for the right reason.”

The hallmark of the program is a personal approach where each veteran receives dedicated assistance from a highly-trained Hire Heroes USA staff member. Whether at a Warrior Transition Assistance Workshop, outreach events hosted by Hire Heroes USA at military installations, or through online and phone assistance, each veteran is viewed as an individual, with unique experiences and aspirations that make them an ideal fit for the right job.

One recently hired Marine veteran was appreciative of the time and attention devoted to him during his time of need, “The skills I have honed or developed and the help I have received [from Hire Heroes USA] cannot simply be done in a week’s time. If it is not already being done, I think it would be a great idea for Hire Heroes to have a representative for each region to appear at the separation classes on base. This is an organization that every veteran deserves to know about!”

With support from the USO and local military commands, the next Hire Heroes USA Warrior Transition Assistance Workshops have been scheduled at Fort Belvoir, Va. and Fort Carson, Co. for the end of August. Online veteran job search assistance and further information about Hire Heroes USA programs and services can be accessed at hireheroesusa.org.
