I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 18 and served on active duty for almost 21 years. The work was fast-paced with high visibility across my different stations. After I separated, I spent another eight years working as a federal employee with the United States Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC). When I was finally ready for a change of pace, I began my job search for a laid back, part-time position. My only real challenge was to write a resume using civilian terminology.

I got connected with Hire Heroes USA after my Veteran Transition Specialist (VTS) Yesenia, whom I met working at MARSOC, reached out to assist me in writing my resume. She was a great help with the resume. I told her what kind of job I was looking for, and she translated my military skills into a professional private sector resume. I couldn’t believe how quickly she was able to do it! Even when I needed a separate tailored resume for a different job opportunity, she was always ready to help. Before I knew it, I had an interview and was offered my current position with Lowe’s Home Improvement.

I couldn’t have done all of this on my own. My VTS helped me focus on positions that truly met my expectations, instead of a job that just pays the bills. In a month’s time, I went through the entire Hire Heroes USA process and came out with a new job that I truly enjoy. What a great service provided to veterans! Thank you Hire Heroes USA!
