Hire Heroes USA assists record number of veterans and military spouses in 2020
More than 11,500 veterans and military spouses found meaningful employment after working with Hire Heroes USA in 2020
Veterans nonprofit Hire Heroes USA tallied a record number of confirmed hires in 2020, despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hire Heroes USA assisted 11,580 transitioning service members, veterans and military spouses in finding meaningful employment in 2020. That number marks a new annual hire record, and it marks our 11th consecutive year of growth in annual hire totals.
“Despite a global pandemic and other external challenges, Hire Heroes USA had the most successful year in our organization’s history in 2020,” said Andrew Sandoe, Hire Heroes USA CEO. “This is only possible because of the dedication of our team members, who serve as a vital resource for military families in such an uncertain time.”
BY THE NUMBERS 
- 11,580 total clients hired.
- $60,915, the average salary for those hired.
- 200,333 phone calls to our clients.
- 15,893 resumes written.
- 74 events held for our clients.
Through the challenges associated with a sudden transition to a fully remote work environment, Hire Heroes USA continued providing important career services to our clients at a time when the veteran unemployment rate hit a record 11.7 percent in April 2020.

They have each found a renewed sense of purpose and continue to serve as leaders in their communities. We are excited to continue serving these veterans and military families in need,” said Hire Heroes USA COO Ross Dickman.
As we look ahead to 2021, more challenges await military families. Veteran unemployment remains at levels that are nearly double the rate at the end of 2019, and our data shows women veterans, military spouses and junior enlisted veterans earn lower salaries and have higher rates of underemployment compared to other transitioning service members and veterans.
