Volunteer Spotlight: Ellen
When the coronavirus pandemic first disrupted our lives and put millions of Americans out of work, Ellen Sanders immediately began searching for ways to help. As a highly experienced human resources professional with a strong passion for serving others, she was a natural fit to be a standout mentor to veterans and military spouses.
“I am passionate about Human Resources and I use my platform to coach others into finding their career goals and providing the tools and resources to assist them in finding their career paths and employment opportunities,” Ellen said.
“As a public servant, I have a responsibility to reach back and help others the way that someone reached back and helped me.”
Her father and brother both served in the armed forces, so it’s a responsibility Ellen takes to heart. In the nine months since she joined as a volunteer with Hire Heroes USA, she dedicated more than 29 hours to empowering our clients, giving them the confidence needed to meet and exceed their initial expectations.
“I share with my clients the importance of knowing their worth and value to themselves, their families, and their employers,” Ellen shared. “It builds up their self-esteem. The clients then apply for higher-paying jobs that they initially felt they did not qualify for.”
Ellen offers more than inspiration to our clients. She’s worked in human resources for the government at both the state and federal level for more than 30 years, providing her with extremely valuable insights to pass along. She’s always willing to share that experience and best practices with our clients to equip them with the tools to find success.
“The most rewarding part of being a volunteer with Hire Heroes USA is knowing that I am making a difference in the lives of veterans and their spouses, who have sacrificed so much to serve our country.”
