Volunteer Spotlight: Ramendu

With more than a decade of professional experience in the software industry, Ramendu Guin has a deep understanding of how employees with diverse backgrounds, skillsets and life experiences add incredible value to a company. When he started researching volunteer opportunities, he was immediately drawn to Hire Heroes USA’s mission to empower veterans and military families. He knew that assisting military veterans and spouses would be the ideal platform to give back to the community.

“Veterans are the backbone of this country,” Ramendu explained. “But there are numerous firsthand challenges that our veterans and their spouses face when it comes to military life, especially when transitioning to a new career avenue. Helping them in their career journey and being a part of their success stories drives my motivation.”

Ramendu has served in leadership roles at companies such as Salesforce and Amazon and participated in more than 200 hiring events, allowing him to provide insight and feedback to clients looking to work in similar industries. Since joining our volunteer team last November, he focused on boosting their confidence through career mentorship, resource sharing and interview preparation.

Most of all, Ramendu encourages clients to persevere through the challenges and uncertainties they face when pursuing a new career. For example, when working with a military spouse, he recognized her hesitation about rejoining the workforce after taking several years to focus on family commitments.

“I worked with her to provide job search assistance, prepare her job seeker profile and mentor her to bridge the skill gap. I can still remember the morning phone call I received from her stating that she got her desired job at her dream company! What could be more fulfilling than that?”
