Volunteer Spotlight: Scott

Scott Clifton empowers veterans to confidently navigate the transition to the civilian workforce and thrive in their careers. Drawing on more than 25 years of experience in management consulting, Scott helps clients refine job-search strategies while building confidence.

Scott learned about Hire Heroes USA through a colleague at Main Digital, where he serves as the Business Agility Practice Lead. Since October 2022, he has been coaching veterans, inspired by the organization’s mission. “Volunteering in our community is part of Main Digital. Hire Heroes USA’s mission struck me as something I could embrace and easily contribute to. The gratitude that these veterans express convinces me that I’ve made the right choice.”

Leveraging his background in business, marketing, research, and technology, Scott provides invaluable guidance. His professional credentials—including Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), and SAFe Practice Consultant (SCP)—enable him to contextualize certification pathways and offer practical advice for veterans exploring project management careers.

During one-on-one coaching sessions, Scott reviews clients’ resumes and LinkedIn profiles to establish clear goals for each candidate. These sessions often include mock interviews, industry-specific advice, and detailed feedback. “I’ve worked with many companies at various levels of success, giving me better insight to offer advice to candidates. I help them translate military jargon into broader civilian terms to demonstrate applicable experiences and skills on their resumes, LinkedIn posts, and during interviews.”

Scott emphasizes the importance of practice, particularly for interviews, to build confidence and help veterans showcase their transferable skills. “Your military experience gives you strengths like collaboration, adaptability, and customer focus—qualities that every employer values.”

Beyond coaching, Scott actively advocates for the Hire Heroes USA mission. He encourages business leaders to get involved, sharing, “Don’t undersell your own ability to contribute. After your first session, you’ll see the positive effect you can have.”
